The Oceania Football Confederation Women’s Nations Cup will set a pathway for our local girls to showcase their talent when the Digicel Kulas take on the Solomon Islands today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf says this kind of competition will help our women footballers master their skills and earn money.

“I know teams have prepared well,” he said. “We have a chance to prove ourselves; we have selected a good team.

“The girls have gone through intense training, team bonding and working on their game plan.”

Meanwhile, Sofi Diyalowai will captain the Fijian side and will be assisted by Liza Hussein. Diyalowai said it was important for the team to put its “best foot forward and give their all”.

“The players are dedicated and want to win the Nation’s Cup at any cost. We have been working very hard and we are all ready for this challenge,” she said.

The match kicks off at 7pm.

The other match for the day is between Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea at 4pm. Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga and Vanuatu will play for a chance to join New Zealand as the Oceania representatives to the World Cup.
