PRESIDENT Jioji Konrote has been reappointed as the next President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands.
Mr Konrote’s appointment was revealed in an urgent Parliament sitting this morning.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama had nominated Mr Konrote’s name before Parliament which was unanimously agreed upon by Members of Parliament.
However the Leader of the Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa did not submit her nomination for President before Parliament today as required by law because members of the SODELPA MPs including her walked out of Parliament.
This will be Mr Konrote’s second term as President for another three years.
