President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote launched the Organic Rotuma Accreditation and the Publication of the Rotuman Book “Rak La Faeag Rotuḁm” at the Holiday In yesterday.

President Konrote while launching the new book that teaches the Rotuman language titled “Rak La Faeag Rotuḁm” said that in 2012 the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared the Rotuman language as endangered.

“Today’s launch of this book is in line with the Ministry of Education’s overall program to educate the promotion of our native language,” President Konrote said.

“The effort to declare Rotuma as an organic island is a result of a joint effort and cooperation between the Council of Chiefs of Rotuma, the iTaukei Trust Fund Board, the Ministry of Agriculture, Matanataki and South Pacific Community (SPC).”

“This is an exciting new chapter for Rotuma’s organic journey due to the expected wide range of benefits it will bring to the people, including healthy and fresh produce, protection of our biodiversity and food, nutritional security and the creation of employment opportunities for our people.”

The Head of State added that the publication and launch of the book is a culmination of years of hard work and for anyone who is keen to learn Rotuman can easily do so now, because it is designed for beginners, regardless of one’s age, and it offers a simple, easy to follow approach.
