FIJI’S President Jioji Konrote has sincerely acknowledged Australia and New Zealand rugby unions for giving Fiji an opportunity to participate in their competitions.

After a gallant display from the Fiji Airways Drua team during the National Rugby Championship final last Saturday defeating former champions Queensland Country 36-26, Konrote believed that the pathway of rugby development in Fiji was finally bearing fruits.

Konrote hopes the two neighbouring countries will continue to assist Fiji in rugby development in the future.

“We owe Australia and New Zealand our gratitude for allowing our development team to participate in their competition,” Konrote said.

“I hope next year they will allow us to participate in their Tier 1 competition based on our performance and to maintain the momentum the Drua team has started, I believe that we can convince both Australia and New Zealand Rugby Union that we can fill in a place in the top tier competition like the Super Rugby.”

Meanwhile another pathway towards rugby development is the Vodafone Vanua XV team who were invited by the New Zealand Rugby Union to play against the Heartland XV side.
