THE invite to be part of the opening of the Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland came as a surprise for former Fiji Airways 7s captain Osea Kolinisau.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially opened the Olympic House – one of the most sustainable buildings in the world yesterday, June 23, 2019.
While communicating with the Fiji Times Online via social media, Kolinisau said he was honoured to be part of the event.
“I would like to thank the IOC for inviting me as it is such an honour to be invited to be part of the opening of the Olympic House and to carry the Olympic flag,” Kolinisau said.
The Rio Olympics gold medalist said the invite came as a surprise and the occasion would be one of the memories he would always remember.
Meanwhile, the inauguration was the highlight of the very emblematic and emotional celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of the IOC, which was founded on June 23, 1894, by Pierre De Coubertin.
In attendance were Olympic legends such as Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, the Norwegian biathlete who has claimed 13 Olympic medals, and Olympic champions Tina Maze (Slovenia), Santiago Lange (Argentina), Kolinisau and Yuna Kim (Republic of Korea), to name but a few.
They were joined by Yusra Mardini and Yonas Kinde, who were both a part of the IOC Refugee Olympic Team Rio 2016.
