LELEAN Memorial School, has for the first time, won the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League’s Colin Love Trophy after defeating Ratu Kadavulevu School 16-10 in a tough under-19 grand final at Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday.
In a grandstand filled with parents, old scholars, students and cheer groups, the LMS Knights tussled throughout the 80 minutes, ensuring their ball handling and every aspect of the crucial match was done meticulously, finally producing the result they had anticipated from the beginning.
LMS principal Laisa Soko expressed her appreciation and admitted they were thankful that they had achieved their target which they had planned to achieve.
“Our target this year is to improve our standing in all our team sports and that’s what the boys have done,” she said.
Soko said the stakeholders, parents and former students were happy with what the boys had achieved.
She said one of the things they advised the players was that this year the school would use sports to build character in the school.
“The values they learn from the sport, they will bring it into the classroom, which is to be taken positively. This is my first year here at LMS and one fact I was told by the teachers was that the support this year has been tremendous. I told them that we need to support all sports that are brought to LMS,” she said.
She said excelling in sport could help students because not all of them would excel academically.
She expressed gratitude to the tremendous effort of the coaches, managers, parents, old scholars and the school for supporting the team. She thanked the Methodist Church in Fiji for its support and prayers.
