Kiwis finally win at home

NEW Zealand has finally won its 7s tournament after three years with a 29-5 victory against France at Hamilton last night.

The hosts did it in style with their women’s team also winning their title after beating Canada 24-7.

The men’s final saw Scott Curry scoring three tries (2nd minute, 14th, 16th) while Regan Ware added a brace (8th, 11th).

Tavite Veredamu scored France’s lone try.

NZ 7s results:

Men’s:

11th place: Ireland 19 – 24 Scotland, 9th place: Fiji 12 – 5 South Africa, 7th place: Argentina 19 – 17 Kenya, 5th place: Canada 28 – 7 USA, Bronze final: England 21 – 33 Australia, Cup final: France 5-29 New Zealand.

Women:

7th place: Fiji 21 – 26 Russia, 5th place: USA 45 – 5 England, Cup semi-final: Australia 19 – 28 Canada, New Zealand 19 – 7 France, Bronze final: Australia 14 – 19 France, Cup final: Canada 7 – 24 New Zealand.

Next year’s tournament is expected to move to Eden Park in Auckland, 2020 back at Hamilton while 2023 is expected to be in Fiji, possibly Nadi.
