Penrith Panthers and Fiji Bati second rower Viliame Kikau is ready to take on the new challenge in joining the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2023.
Kikau is preparing himself to take on the challenge to help his new club to attain some lost glory.
Kikau was instrumental as his side edged past South Sydney Rabbitohs 14-12 to win the NRL grand final this season.
“Probably the greatest achievement you can have is win a premiership (NRL) and I have done that with a great club like Penrith,” Kikau told this newspaper.
“Now the Bulldogs is next for me and I am ready to do my part for them when I get there.”
Kikau said being in the NRL, “you constantly needed to find ways to challenge yourself to become a better player”.
“That is how it is in the NRL, you don’t stay in one club for long, an opportunity has come with the Bulldogs and I will take all the learnings and experience that I have from my time with the Panthers to help them,” the former Marist Brothers High School student said. With one last season in Penrith, the Bau warrior said he looked to end his six year stint on a high note with the aim of another premiership win in 2022.
“I still have one year to go, and I’m not going to slow down, I’m playing my heart out to try and get another premiership win before I move on.”
Kikau, who arrived in the country to spend Christmas with his family last weekend, was a guest of the Cautata Rugby Club in Cautata Village on Tuesday night as they hosted a thanksgiving celebration for the rugby uniforms he supplied the club last year.
Kikau is schedule to return to Australia today.
The Bulldogs were handed its sixth wooden spoon this season.
