From playing netball in primary school competitions to representing the country on the international stage, Fiji Pearls centre Jimaima Kete gives credit to the sacrifices of her parents in helping her achieve her netball dreams.

As the Fiji Pearls prepare to leave for South Africa tomorrow to compete in the Vitality Netball World Cup 2023, Kete admits she wouldn’t have reached this far in fulfilling her dreams if it wasn’t for the unwavering support of her parents.

As the 21-year-old embarks on this significant milestone in her career, she reflects on the steadfast support she has received from her parents.

“My mum and dad have always been incredibly supportive, always encouraging me to reach the highest point in my netball journey,” the Lauan lass shared.

Kete fondly recalls her first foray into netball during her primary school years at Assemblies of God Primary School, where she started playing in the nine-and-under grade.

From day one, her parents have been her pillars of support, with her mother, Kereni Ledua, consistently encouraging her to train diligently and strive for greatness in her netball pursuits.

“Their support has brought me to where I am today. I made a promise to myself to reach the pinnacle of my netball career and make them proud.”

Kate believes that her selection to the Fiji team for the World Cup is a testament to the years of hard work she has put in. She firmly believes that anyone can achieve their goals if they are dedicated and willing to put in the necessary effort.

“I firmly believe that when we are fully invested in our pursuits, we will ultimately reap the rewards. Success doesn’t happen overnight; it is a product of patience, hard work, and trusting the process.”

Known for her patience and hard work in netball circles, Kete is one of only two players in Fiji to have played in all five international tournaments including the qualifiers on the Fiji Pearls schedule.

As a former netter for the Lomaiviti Club, Kete hopes to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams with dedication and resilience.

And with the unwavering support of her parents by her side, she is determined to leave her mark in the netball world, showcasing the results of her relentless pursuit of excellence.
