THE ban on kawakawa and donu has been lifted effective since October 1, 2018.

And Fiji’s Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau has reminded fisherman, merchants and restaurant operators around the country that the same operation will be carried out next year.

He said the ministry would be placing stringent measures as the ministry had only issued written warnings to offenders rather than issuing penalties that range from $2000 to $10,000 an offence.

He added the ministry would continue to carry out awareness leading up to next year’s seasonal ban period.

The minister has also noted that all the fish confiscated during the four-month seasonal ban period from June to September would not be returned.

Instead, those will either be used for research or will be trialled for aquaculture fish feed production.
