Mohammed Mufid has seen the financial benefit of running a kava business that led him to switch from farming to selling kava at the Lautoka market. Being the family’s breadwinner, he said he had to find other means of income.
“Now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased, hopefully, this will benefit my business,” the 23-year-old resident of Drasa said.
“I am positive it will kick off to a good start that people are allowed to consume kava in the market.”
He said his suppliers were from Savusavu and he had been in the business for the past three months.
“There has been an increase in customers coming to buy kava at the market, this is good for business.”
He said apart from selling kava, he also sold other items needed for mixing the traditional drink.
He said his long term goal was to build a kava shop for his customers.
“For years, I have been farming but I think this is the best business for me now.”
