A SENIOR Ministry of Education staff has told heads of schools to “take the sulu kava and everything and throw it away in the bin” as he urged them to stop drinking excessive kava.

Newly appointed head of the National Education Service Delivery Unit Timoci Bure said kava wasn’t supposed to be consumed every day.

“Kava drinking – you have to control it. Don’t let kava control your life,” he told heads of schools from Rakiraki at the Ra High School yesterday.

“I have been to most of the schools and seen my classmates are looking older than me.”

“Kava drinking is not supposed to be done in the school – not supposed to be done every day.

Mr Bure said kava is only to be consumed when one has done good job.

“That’s what the scripture says – “drink your wine and eat your meal for the Lord is happy with the work of your hands.”

“So when are you supposed to drink your kava and eat your meal? When you know the Lord is happy with the work of your hands. You just can’t be drinking kava every day; I don’t think the Lord is happy with your work.”

He asked heads of schools to stop drinking kava.

“So take the sulu kava and everything and throw it away in the bin. Tell your teachers no more of this. We will work until we reach this level then we will start looking for this.’

Mr Bure said when teachers come to work after a long night’s grog session, “students look at you when you are grog doped and what are they talking about?””
