KAKALA House is the new champion of the Adi Cakobau School inter-house competition after winning 18 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze medals at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva yesterday.

Former champion Uci House grabbed 14 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze to finish in second place, while in third place was Lagakali House with 9 gold, 12 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Makosoi House settled for fourth place with five gold, nine silver and 14 bronze medals.

Vice-principal Laniana Tawake said the Sawani girls needed to begin from scratch and work their way up as they prepared for the Triple ‘N’ zone and the secondary schools finals.

“Now we are looking forward to the zone and the Coca-Cola Games but we have to do the groundwork first as we build up.

“For the past four weeks, the weather has not been on our side and the girls could not prepare well for this inter-house competition but we are anticipating an improvement in our performance in the coming week,” said Tawake.

The Coca-Cola Games defending champion will make sure they leave no stone unturned as they prepare for the much-anticipated event of the athletic year.

“It will always be a challenge for us to defend our title as we have the other prominent schools coming after us.

“We have athletes who have left for other schools and new ones coming in and it is all up to the coaches and the athletes themselves to train and prepare well to defend our title,” said Tawake.
