THE Kaiviti Silktails have continued their incredible run in the 2021 Ron Massey Cup competition after outplaying Ryde Eastwood Hawks 42-20 at the Belmore Sports Complex in Sydney on Saturday.

The win has moved Slktails up in the points standings to fifth after round nine of competition.

The Fijians were off the blocks a little slow allowing the opposition to score first in the 4th minute.

In the 11th minute wing Timoci Bola broke 60m out to find his captain in support and effectively drew in the last defender to allow Penioni Tagituimua a free run to the line for the first try.

The Silktails second try was scored by Timoci Bola after he managed to break through the defence to dive over in the right corner.

The good run by the Fijians saw them score three consecutive tries to Manasa Kalou, Apimeleki Lutuimawi and Maika Serulevu who crossed over in the 27th, 32nd and 36th minute respectively.

The Silktails head to the half-time break in the lead 26-4.

The Hawks started the second half on a high note crossing over for their second try just after eight minutes but Lutuimawi replied with his second try after he effectively snuck over from the base of the ruck.

The Hawks lifted their play in the last quarter to score another two tries, but it came about from some poor sloppy defensive efforts in-goal from kick chases on their last play.

Hardworking forward Apakuki Tavodi managed to cross over for another try for the Silktails with 10 minutes to play.

But the Fijians showed their class when they were awarded a scrum 60m out and just when the ball was fed at the sound of the buzzer, our Silktails put on a classic Fijian flair display to dash down the right flank with some stylish footwork and class off-loading to score a beauty of a try right under the sticks to Bola –– his second for the day.

The win was dedicated to all the mothers, wives and partners of the Silktails as Fiji celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday.

The team is on a bye this weekend but will play the Hills Bulls on May 22.
