THE Managing  director of Goundar Shipping Services Limited (GSSL) George Goundar described the situation at the Vunisea jetty, on Kadavu as a nightmare.

GSSL is the owner of the vessel Lomaiviti Princess 1 which was berthed at the Vunisea jetty this morning with passengers stranded on board the vessel due to a landslide.

Mr Goundar said about 500 passengers were aboard and close to 400 were to meant to disembark at Vunisea.

“It is a nightmare, when the vessel reached Vunisea this morning, we could not offload because the fibre boats and other transports that were to pick up family members were not there, because of the landslide,” he said.

“The authorities on the ground on the Island should have worked fast in clearing the debri, cause they know people are coming in. Every Wednesday the boat goes to Vunisea, so they know.”

Mr Goundar said the Lomaiviti Princess 1 has not travelled to Kavala jetty, located on another part of Kadavu and will travel back to Vunisea later in the day.

“Hopefully, when we return to Vunisea later on the road is cleared.”
