More than 20 medical professionals protested on the streets of Suva yesterday seeking a commission of inquiry into the adverse effects and deaths brought about by the COVID-19 vaccines.

Leading the protest was former Fiji National University lecturer Nanise Vucago, who has condemned the COVID-19 vaccine over the years.

Ms Vucago called on the Government to hold consultations with the people in regards to the World Health Organization (WHO) amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR).

“There has been no parliamentary voting against the WHO amendments to IHR,” Ms Vucago said.

“Our key messages are directly to the WHO amendments to the International Health Regulation.

“So, we are here today to express our concerns to the Prime Minister. We’ve already informed them that we are giving them a petition.”

Ms Vucago said they were demanding a commission of inquiry specifically to look into the injuries and deaths caused by the vaccine.

“That’s all we are seeking for today, the justice of our people,” she added. Ms Vucago claimed the Health Ministry has not held consultations with the public on the amendments to the IHR.

“WHO has all the right to apologise to the people of this country. There are people dying without accountability, so we are seeking justice for those.

“There was no way in any point where we could have had any consultation or even any form of meeting with the Minister of Health.”

Ms Vucago added she has filed a High Court case on the issue.

“In regard to the WHO amendments, they’ve already been given. They’ve been working on it without any form of consultation with the people. So, the changes are purely more on to the COVID-19 pandemic, in future pandemics, without any form of consultation with the people of the country.”

According to Ms Vucago, in other parts of the world the issue was being raised in Parliament along with public hearings.

“So, Fijians have their own constitutional rights under the 2013 Constitution. We should be respected as citizens to participate in those amendments.”
