Judge concurs with assessors on rape case and convicts man

HIGH Court judge Justice Sunil Sharma last week concurred with the unanimous opinion of the assessors in a rape trial and convicted Feroz Kumar for raping and indecently assaulting a seven-year-old girl back in 2010.
Justice Sharma said in his judgment that he delivered on May 3 that he accepted the evidence of the complainant as truthful and reliable.
“Although the incident happened some seven years ago, the complainant was able to recall what had happened to her,” Justice Sharma said.
“I have no doubt in my mind that the complainant told the truth in court, her demeanour was consistent with her honesty,” he said.
He, however, rejected the evidence of the accused as unreliable and unworthy of belief.
“The defence has not been able to create a reasonable doubt in the prosecution case.”
The accused has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Friday, May 11.
