THE Savusavu jetty is expected to close for four days as refurbishment works on a steel ramp at the wharf progresses.
According to a statement from the Fiji Roads Authority the closure would allow personnel to carry out improvements to the steel ramp installed on the jetty last Christmas.
The statement said work was being carried out at the request of the shipping companies to improve the operation and safety for the roll-on roll-off ferries to load and unload vehicles.
“The FRA has primarily taken into consideration the services that could be affected as a result of the temporary closure,” the statement said.
“This was done through consultations and arrangements with shipping companies that use the Savusavu jetty. These consultations were undertaken to minimise the interruption to shipping services in the area.”
The statement said in line with the planned schedule, the Savusavu jetty would be closed from 8am on Saturday the 27 of this month and would be reopened at 4pm the next day.
“This will cater for a roll-on roll-off ferry scheduled to berth at the jetty before closing again at 2am,” the statement said.
“The jetty will be open for normal operation on Tuesday, September 30 at 4am.
“Overall the jetty will be closed for four days and local company Zaid Engineering Limited will be carrying out this work for the Fiji Roads Authority.”
