Japan climbs to seventh position on world rugby rankings

THE 2019 Rugby World Cup host, Japan, has climbed to the seventh position on the latest World Rugby rankings.

Japan has 82.08 points and replaces France in the seventh position.

France has 81.38 points and has slipped into eighth position.

This after an impressive outing in the pool stages of this year’s tournament.

Japan defeated teams like Russia, Samoa, Ireland, and Scotland to secure a spot in the quarter-finals for the very first time.

Japan faces South Africa in the quarter-finals – a team they beat at the 2015 World Cup in England – at 10.15pm on Sunday, September 20.

Meanwhile, New Zealand maintains its spot on the number one position with 90.98 points, while Wales follows in second with 88.87 points.

England, Ireland and South Africa make up the top five while Australia is ranked sixth.
