THE Fiji Pearls netball team was thumped by Jamaica 83-38 in the Taini Jamison Trophy opening encounter in Auckland, New Zealand on Wednesday.
The game was a wake-up call for the Fijians as they were given a taste of what to expect at the Commonwealth Games as the two nations will feature in the first match of the Games.
Sisters Afa and Ana Rusivakula who started the match in goal were heavily marked by the Sunshine Girls with tough defender and player of the match Shamera Sterling defending well at goal.
The International Netball Federation website stated the Fijians received overwhelming support during the game but the presence of the fans failed to deter the Jamaicans from securing the big win.
