Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Vijay Nath says the 2021-2022 National Budget is not a firework or an election budget.

“It is about assisting all Fijians affected by the downturn of more focused support to the poor and most vulnerable,” he said in Parliament yesterday.

He said it was well targeted and facts based as the government officials were conducting surveys and visiting affected areas.

“Most of the data are consolidated using tablets and online process analysis. With good data we are better, better targeting of support, and making sure that clients receive them on time.

“This shows that government support is not only about providing assistance, it is about providing better and timely assistance, especially to those who need them, and most of not those who abuse it.”
