Isei, Dawi top golf event

THE Fiji Golf Club has two new winners in its 2018 A Grade Championship held on the weekend.

Isei Verevakabauta won the men’s competition while Dawi Jee was in top form in the women’s competition.

Verevakabauta had to fight hard to beat a strong challenge from Usaia Rees.

After 36 holes of competition there was no winner and the match was forced into a play-off before Isei clinched the title on the 38th hole.

Jee who was in top form convincingly beat veteran Merelita McCarthy. In the ladies division 2 the title was won by Kamini Singh who beat Mua Rawlinson.

For the men’s B grade title Ramesh Goundon convincingly beat Daniele Abdullah to take home the title while newcomer Abhyas Chand beat Madan Krishna for the C grade title.

Match committee chairman Opetaia Ravai during the trophy presentation thanked all participants for being excellent sportspersons throughout the tournament.

The new format was enjoyed by all and there was a large crowd to watch the finals on Sunday.

Ravai also thanked all supporters and sponsors for making the championship on the weekend a memorable event.
