International Day for Older Persons celebrated in Suva

THE INTERNATIONAL DAY for Older Persons was celebrated today at the Suva Bowling Club with the theme “The Journey to Age Equality”.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Jennifer Poole said it was the senior citizen’s diligence and sacrifice that made Fiji what is was today.

“The United Nations international day for older persons is celebrated yearly on October 1 to recognise the contribution of older persons and to determine issues that affect their lives,” she said.

Member of the Golden Age Home in Samabula and the Pearce Home in Suva were hosted to a day of bowling and dancing at the Suva Bowling Club to commemorate the occasion.
