THE InsideOut band has dedicated three concerts this month for cancer patients around the country.
Band leader Apakuki Nalawa said $2 from every entry fee to these three concerts would be given to the Fiji Cancer Society.
Last night, the group performed the first concert at Vaga Gardens in Savusavu.
Nalawa said this was the first time for his team to give back to the cancer society.
“We all play a role in helping one another and this month, we have organised three concerts and part of that funding will go to the society,” he said.
“So tonight’s concert will be the first this month and $2 from every entry fee will go towards the society.
“We are also blessed because the owners of Vaga Gardens have freely given the venue that attracts a good crowd.” Nalawa said people suffering from cancer needed such assistance.
“We have done other concerts for charity purpose but this month is different because we have dedicated funding to the society.
“Those who have suffered from cancer or those who have passed on as a result of this disease need to be remembered. “And for our group, we thought of doing this because we all have friends, or loved ones or friends of friends who may have suffered from cancer.”
The band has also been sponsored by Fiji Bitter.
“The company has helped us a lot and the owners of Vaga Gardens as well and without their help, we wouldn’t have come to Vanua Levu.”
Vaga Garden owners Pettine and Neil Irvine said they had hosted concerts organised for charity purposes.
“It’s a way of giving back to the community so we thought of working with InsideOut for this Pinktober month,” Mr Irvine said.
