VODAFONE Fiji FACT and Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants champions Rewa will miss the services of Epeli Saukuru and Misaele Draunibaka during the 2017 Pacific Cup in New Zealand.
The duo who are part of the national squad for the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu are nursing injuries.
Coach Marika Rodu said their training had gone well for the past three weeks. Rodu said Argentinean Diego Maximo would add thrust to their line-up in Auckland.
“We managed to get the national team players in camp for a few days,” he said.
“We will have five players joining us in New Zealand. There is Diego, who played for us in the Oceania Champions League and Anusheel Singh who was with the team during the Inter District Championship. The rain hasn’t affected our preparations. We were fortunate to have had a good environment during the training sessions.
“We are travelling without Epeli and Misaele because they are injured. It is an instruction from the national team management to rest them.”
Rewa has participated in the Pacific Cup for the past three years but has missed out on the title.
“The last three years was a learning experience for us,” Rodu said.
“While we haven’t won the tournament yet we have faced stiff competition. The overseas-based teams have capable players. It was all exposure but now we are focused on winning the tournament.”
