The rest of the world is also opening up, says Minister for Aviation and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He said those in the tourism industry should be reminded that other competitive markets were also trying to get tourists back into their countries.

“So I would like to urge everybody now and just to remind them the rest of the world is also opening up and we have to ensure that we are in the ball game,” he said.

“Being in the ball game means we have to continue to be a health and safe place.

“People have to be confident to come to Fiji knowing that we are very high in vaccination.

“Last night I was seeing various destinations advertised in Australia, I nearly fell off my chair from the kind of rates and meals they were charging for the entire week, not just for children but also adults.”

He said hotel and industry workers needed to ensure quality service delivery.

“So we have to ensure that we are also sensitive to those changes.

“We have to be aware needs to be run properly.

“We have to make sure our entire airport system is clean, our immigration, our Customs are working well, so it’s a whole team effort.

“We also have to ensure that we also become sensitive with things like testings, people will start to measure their trip costs based on how many times they have to do PCR rapid tests so Government is providing a holistic approach to this.”
