INDONESIA’S Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Susana Yembisei is in the country for the 4th Joint Technical Working Group meeting between Indonesia and Fiji.

Ms Yembisei was officially welcomed in Nadi yesterday by Fijian counterpart Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa.

Mrs Vuniwaqa said the two countries shared a common goal in protecting women and children’s rights.

“Our pledge to improve the protection, welfare and safety of our children also remains an important agenda to our ministry and the Fijian Government and we have in place several laws and policies that guide the ministry and provide overall legal redress to the issues of abuse and neglect towards our children,” she said.

“Again, we acknowledge that our performance in this area of work is most effective due to our interagency networks with various stakeholders within Government and the civil society, including faith-based organisations, and we are also thankful to this friendship with the Indonesian government to further progress in this area.”
