India marks 73rd Republic Day

The Indian High Commission in Suva yesterday celebrate’s the 73rd Republic Day of India. High Commissioner Palaniswamy Subramanyan Karthigeyan said the event was special because it was celebrated during the countdown to India’s 75th year of independence known as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM).

He said it was great to see the relations between India, Fiji and other Pacific Island countries flourish despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

He urged stakeholders to work together in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The event was marked with the launch of the ‘Fiji ke Kavi Muhammad Yusuf ka Kavya: Srijan evam Drishti’ – a collection of 170 poems by Fijian poet Mohammad Yusuf; and ‘Indradhanush: Fiji ki Hindi Kahaniyaan’ – a collection of stories of 15 Fijian writers, edited by Professor Subashni Lata Kumar, a lecturer at the Fiji National University.
