THE inaugural Radradra 7s tournament is now a case of interest for many local clubs as the organisers confirmed the presence of some renowned players who will be part of the three-day tournament on Taveuni, Vanua Levu, next month.

The number of teams in the men’s division has increased from 32 to 40 earlier this week – that has shown the interest of local clubs in competing in maritime zones to develop grassroots rugby on the islands.

The tournament media and marketing officer, James Vunituraga, said the tournament played a significant role for the people of Taveuni and maritime zones.

“Radradra will have his own team called the Eiffel Ruggers and Metuisela Talebula will captain his own side to the tournament,” said Vunituraga.

“More good news is that we will be expecting to see some France-based reps in the competition next month and they will be coming to support Semi and the development of rugby on the island.”

The tournament has attracted more than 10 teams from mainland and also clubs from Kadavu.

“The main purpose of this tournament is for Radradra to give back to the community, and Village Club the Somosomo Sharks his home team where his talent was noticed playing in a local competition.
