Villagers in the Udu peninsula, Vanua Levu, will receive improved road access in the next five to 10 years thanks to the Fiji Roads Authority’s Forward Works Program.
FRA chief executive officer Kamal Prasad said the program would include road construction for the Macuata side of the peninsula from the Duavata Secondary School to Vunikodi Village.
“It is all part of our forward works program for the next five to 10 years with the second phase from Duavata Secondary School to Nukusa Village,” he said.
“Then the third phase from Nukusa Village to Vunikodi Village all along the Udu peninsular coast within Udu district on Macuata Province. ”
For the Tawake area of Cakaudrove, Mr Prasad said plans included a road from Tawake Village to Udu district.
“FRA has completed all ground work and protocol with the vanua of Tawake and Wainiika together with the Cakaudrove Provincial Council team.
“We are just waiting for landowning unit’s written consent including freehold properties approval before we move in for our reconnaissance work.”
Mr Prasad said the FRA had an allocation to upgrade the existing road from Lagi to Tawake Village with a new pilot cut from Tawake to Wainiika Village along the Udu Point peninsular in Cakaudrove.
