Impressive – Fiji FACT day one outcome excites officials

If the first round of the 2022 Digicel Fiji FACT yesterday, is anything to go by, expect more interesting and entertaining matches when the tournament proper begins at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park this Thursday.
This is according to Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf, who said to expect competition to tighten when the second round of matches resume.
“We had a great day one. Good weather, good crowd, great games. It was a good Sunday for football and everyone enjoyed it. I’m sure the one’s watching on TV from home also had a good time,” Yusuf said.
He added the hosts Nadroga and defending Digicel Premier League champions Lautoka are expected to add to the hype of the tournament.
“Nadroga will be hosting after 21 years and I know there are a lot of people waiting for the tournament to begin there. Lautoka will also be a team to watch out for, as they have had a good preparation time.”
Meanwhile, Rewa and Labasa entertained the more than 3,000 fans, who turned up for day one action in Suva yesterday.
A Christopher Wasasala double sealed the win and sent the majority of the Labasa fans into jubilation. The feature match lived up to expectations when Wasasala fired home from 20 yards out to put Labasa up by a goal to nil.
Rewa captain Setareki Hughes equalised before halftime as the teams rested, tied 1-all. Both team misses a number of half chances as both goal keepers were at the top of their game.
Wasasala scored the winner in stoppage time, neatly placing the ball past Rewa stopper Mohammed Alam in the dying moments of injury time.
