Rinu Devi is focused on only one thing, ensuring she can send her three children to school when classes begin on January 19.

“We have cut down on our expenses because I want my children all geared up for the new school year,” she said.

Ms Devi said her husband worked as a labourer and did not earn enough to meet all their needs.

“We prioritise our shopping accordingly and for me right now, the most important thing is my kids’ school stuff.”

She said she would need at least $180 to buy essential school items for her three children.
