FAMILY, friends and dignitaries gathered at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva today for the thanksgiving service of Adi Ateca Moceiwaqa Mara Ganilau.

In his eulogy, Bau chief Ratu Tu’uakitau Cokanauto said after she got married to Ratu Epeli Ganilau, the noble lady never took on any fulltime employment but instead devoted her time to her family.

“Motherhood and raising her family in her own words were first and foremost, she became a devoted mother and later on a grandmother,” Ratu Tu’uakitau said.

“She took care of the motherly duties as Ratu Epeli with his career in the military was away from Fiji for long periods of time leaving Adi Ateca on her own,” he explained.

However, Ratu Tu’uakitau added her grandparents helped her whenever her husband was away.

She passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the CWM hospital in Suva at the age of 66.

The cortege left the Sacred Heart Cathedral for Nausori Airport after the service for her final flight to Taveuni.

Adi Ateca will lie at Vuniduva, the chiefly residence in Somosomo for her final night.

The Taveuni church service will be at 10am at the Wairiki Chapel after which she will be laid to rest at the chiefly burial grounds at Somosomo in Taveuni tomorrow, November 28, 2018.
