About 100 under-19 women’s football players took part in the national trials around the three divisions in the country yesterday.

About 30 players turned up in Suva, 40 in Labasa and 50 players turned up in Ba as Fiji FA looks to select the best players for this year’s OFC Under-19 Women’s Championship.

The tournament will also serve as a qualifying ground for next year’s FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup.

Fiji FA vice-president Susan Wise said the big turnout was a good sign.

“It is good to see players turning up in numbers. This will give our selectors a good chance to test them before selecting a final team for the tournament,” she said.

She added that players will be called into camp once the squad is finalised. The OFC Under-19 Women’s Championship will be held in Fiji from June 21-July 8.
