Update: 8:35PM THE launch of the Peri-Urban and Municipal Household Solid Waste collection services will ensure the proper disposal of rubbish with the new skip bin being provided for those living in Vunileba Settlement, Tamavua.

Fiji’s Minister for Local Government and Environment Parveen Kumar said a collective effort was needed to keep the environment clean.

“Apart from the Government and municipal solid waste management services, there needs to be individual responsibility as I’ve been saying this for quite some time that it has to be the collective effort to keep our environment clean,” Mr Kumar said.

“We have to have civic pride to make our communities and settlements clean.”

Tacirua landowner Setareki Raibevu acknowledged the Government’s support through this program.

“We are happy that we have been provided with this skip bin because we have been trying to be provided with one over the years to cater for the increasing number of residents that continue to move into our settlements,” Mr Raibevu said.

Mr Raibevu is also urging those living in Vunileba Settlement to make use of the skip bin and to refrain from dumping rubbish along roadsides.
