STAFF members of Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka rallied yesterday to clean up the Marine Drive foreshore.
The hotel workers loaded garbage bags with debris, plastic bags and beer bottles that littered the beachfront.
Hotel manager Narend Kumar said the waste was becoming an eyesore for guests and the general public.
“Our guests started to notice the amount of rubbish that was along the foreshore that was very visible at low tide. So we decided that as part of our social responsibility efforts, we would clean up the area,” Mr Kumar said.
He said the clean-up drive also complemented Government’s Fight the Bite initiative.
Local Government and Environment Minister Parveen Kumar commended staff members for taking the first step to clean up their environment.
“We welcome businesses like Waterfront Hotel to join us in our campaign and we hope that other individuals and corporate bodies also follow suit and ensure that their environment is clean,” he said.
