THE Health Ministry will soon roll out an initiative for all major hospitals around the country “hospitals in their homes”.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Health, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, who said this was only being practised at the CWM Hospital.

Dr Waqainabete explained this was a process for patients who come to the hospital with serious medical issues like diabetes and were admitted for a few days because of amputation.

He said when these patients were discharged from the hospital, there was a team of nurses who visited them two to three times a week depending on the severity of their condition.

He said these nurses had to keep the doctors informed about the patient’s condition.

“We are trying to ensure that we roll this process out to the other big hospitals around the country because there is a lot of evidence that suggests the quicker we bring patients into the hospitals, the quicker we get them home where they feel better mentally and psychologically,” said Dr Waqainabete.
