DREAM big and don’t give up.
This was the message from British High Commissioner to Fiji Melanie Hopkins to about 120 women who converged at the Fiji Museum as part of the Vital Voice Global Mentoring walk yesterday.
Ms Hopkins said the event was staged to help aspiring women and girls succeed in different spheres of Fijian life.
“It is a real honour on a professional and personal level to be invited to be in something like this,” she said.
“What it does, it really shows the potential of women leadership in Fiji and it gives chance to shine the spotlight on some of the fantastic talents that exist in Fiji
Ms Hopkins said speakers from different fields of accountancy, civil society and law were there to share their expertise to help young girls and women grow.
“Most importantly it gives the chance to share their expertise with the next generation and that is something that is good for both sides and it is really important in terms of supporting Fiji’s future.
“The speakers shared some important points today. Margaret from Lautoka today talked about how women have the right to dream big and then she said it was about finding small steps to help you build up and sometimes that path would not be direct and sometimes there would be obstacles and sometimes you may paddle a bit slower.”
