Hong Kong senior officials welcomes Fiji’s interest in trade and tourism

HONG Kong is the gateway to China and rest of Asia, and we see great opportunity to increase exports, tourism, cultural cooperation, and inbound investments.
The Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Local Government, Housing and Community Development, Premila Kumar, while in Hong Kong said this during her meeting with the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, the Under-Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, and the Commissioner, Ministry of Foreign Affairs to China, Xie Feng, on Thursday, 15 August 2019.
Mrs Kumar reflected on the close bond shared by Fiji and China and stressed Fiji’s adherence to the “One China Policy” and respect for the “One Country, Two Systems” for Hong Kong.
She also referred to Fiji’s visibility and popularity in Hong Kong, through its success in the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens.
The Hong Kong Administration welcomed Fiji’s interest and further discussed measures that will support tourism cooperation, SME development, capacity building, leverage of merchandise trade and investment.
While in Hong Kong, Mrs Kumar also toured the Hong Kong Food Expo in Hong Kong’s Exhibition Centre, to explore potential avenues of marketing Fijian food products.
Mrs Kumar later travelled to Shenzhen, meeting the Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, Mr Wang Lixin, on Friday, August 16, 2019.
Mr Wang is in charge of sectors inclusive of trade, investment, tourism, technology, and cultural promotion, to name a few.
Shenzhen was the first Special Economic Zone under China’s “Opening-up Policy” and has achieved great success over the past 40 years, transforming a rural agricultural town into the 3rd largest city of China, with huge advancement in special economic zones, ICT development, e-commerce, and high-end manufacturing.
While in Shenzhen, Mrs Kumar also visited the Huawei Group-Headquarter. Concepts of smart cities, safe cities and e-commerce was explained to the Fijian Delegation.
She will later participate in the 2019 Guangdong 21st Maritime Silk Road Expo, as a key note Speaker, in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.
