THE Golden Age Home in Lautoka will receive a retrofitted bus, thanks to the Japan government.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa and Japan’s ambassador to Fiji, Kawakami Fumihiro, signed a grant contract to formalise the assistance in Suva yesterday.
Mrs Vuniwaqa thanked the government of Japan for the assistance.
“The USD $139,947 ($F282,788) will enable 47 residents of the Golden Age Home Lautoka, to enjoy a retrofitted bus that is elder and disability friendly,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.
“In the quest to leave no Fijian behind, the project assistance also addresses the national ageing policy goals of promoting an inclusive, protective, healthy ageing and the provision of enabling environments for older persons.”
Mr Fumihiro praised Mrs Vuniwaqa’s leadership in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3, and realising social inclusion and empowerment as one of its key approaches under Fiji’s five-year and 20 year development plan.
The board of visitors for the Golden Age Home in Lautoka was also commended for being instrumental in securing the grant.
