THE newly-opened Fiji Juvenile Rehabilitation and Development Centre is expected to create a much better and livable institution and an enabling and caring environment for the rehabilitative care for juvenile offenders.
The centre, situated at Samabula in Suva is now house to 10 boys aged 13 to 19 years.
“This special day and event marked a huge sigh of relief for our children, our staff and families alike,” Social Welfare Minister Dr Jiko Luveni said at the launch.
“Must I say that this will also bring in great confidence to the parents, guardians and families of our children.
“The old home was not conducive to all and the state kept looking for alternate sites given the pressing challenges for our children.”
