ONE of Fiji’s most popular tourist properties will celebrate 100 years of existence this week.
The Hilton Hotels and Resorts, which boasts two properties in Nadi, will mark this milestone achievement on May 31.
Hilton Fiji cluster general manager David Wells said it was a very exciting time for the hotel and its staff.
“It all goes back to 1919 in Texas in the United States when Conrad Hilton bought his first hotel,” he said.
“Hilton globally has been known for a history of firsts, our hotels throughout the last 100 years have had many firsts.
“We were the first to put in televisions in hotel rooms, things that we laugh at now and think it’s standard to add things to your hotel room. Conrad Hilton was a pioneer in the hotel industry.
“It’s how famous the brand has become.”
Mr Wells said the Hilton brand in Fiji had grown from strength to strength and was one of the most recognised brands in the world.
“I think it’s a great anchor brand for Fiji. It is one of the most recognised brands in the world, when people are surveyed all over the world about iconic brands that come to mind, they talk about Coca-Cola, American Express and Hilton.
“In Fiji, I think Hilton has brought a grand presence which is really important to bring international travellers to Fiji, it’s so widely recognised.
“Some of the key things we do in Fiji are Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa and Doubletree Resort by Hilton Sonaisali Island, we have 850 team members, of that number eight expatriates, every other member is local which is a huge success story.”
For this special occasion, the Hilton resorts in Fiji are planning a number of activities, one of which includes a breakfast event where guests can watch the sunrise, becoming the first people from the global Hilton properties to do so.
