HIGH-level talks on sustainable growth and development of the private sector in the African Caribbean Pacific Group opened in Nadi today.

While opening the meeting, Minister for Agriculture Dr Mahendra Reddy said the three-day discussions were important for the development of the private sector.

“It is only fitting that we have come together to remind ourselves the crucial role that the private sector plays in the development of the economy in today’s times,” Mr Reddy said.

“The private sector is the engine of economic growth and job creation and the Government provides the public infrastructure and we provide the enabling environment but at the end of the day it’s the private sector that needs much-needed growth and development.”

The event is organised by the ACP in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).
