High Court jails man to 12 years for raping granddaughter

RAPE is the worst form of sexual assault that invades the privacy of a person and is an unwanted intrusion into a person’s dignity.

This was the comment of High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo when sentencing a 54-year-old man in Labasa to 12 years imprisonment for raping his seven-year-old granddaughter.

The man pleaded guilty to a count each of rape and sexual assault.

The court heard the man raped the victim while she was home alone on November 1, 2017, on a maritime island in Vanua Levu.

A non-parole period of 11 years has been set.
