The High Court in Suva has found former FijiFirst MP Vijendra Prakash guilty of giving false information to public servant and obtaining $33,670.

The matter of the former government MP was called for judgment today before High Court judge Justice Dr Thushara Kumarage.

Justice Kumarage said the accused knew or believed the information he provided to Parliament, that he lived at Waidracia, Naluwai, Vunidawa, Naitasiri was false.

And that by providing that information to Parliament would cause the former acting Secretary General to Parliament, Viniana Namosimalua, to pay him allowances he was not entitled to.

Justice Kumarage said while he claimed to live at Waidracia, there was not an iota of evidence to support this.

And that his information with other government agencies were that his residential address was at Omkar Road, Narere.

Mr Prakash was found guilty and convicted of one count of giving false information to a public servant and obtaining a financial advantage.

The matter will be called for sentencing and mitigation submissions on January 26.
