AN ecstatic Senirusi Seruvakula was beaming with pride as his gallant troops arrived home after a long journey from London after the Flying Fijians held off a late surge from the Barbarians to claim a historic win at Twickenham early Sunday morning Fiji time.

Although still reeling from the effects of jet lag the players were in a jovial mood mingling with fans, family and friends at the Nadi International Airport touching down at approximately 11:55am yesterday.

A beaming Seruvakula could not hide his pride as he stated that with a squad with 11 new players the Barbarians packed with world-class fervour were tamed in a match where the Flying Fijians frequently attacked from deep reminiscent of the late legendary flyer Jo Levula’s legacy –– the brand of running rugby the world is synonymous with.

Vatukoula strongman and impressive Johnny Dyer, who was rewarded with the Man Of the Match gong humbly responded that he will start preparing for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in earnest to represent the Flying Fijians thanking his coaches, fellow brothers in arms and family for their unwavering support in his rise to rugby stardom adding it is every young rugby player’s dream to play at Twickenham when questioned.

A largely unknown Teti Tela described the atmosphere at Twickenham as surreal and felt honoured representing the Flying Fijians against a team laced with rugby superstars.

He also revealed that he is currently not contracted and availed himself for the prestigious white jersey with the coconut emblem.

Teti definitely is the Flying Fijians answer to erase woeful kicking as the Flying Fijians Rugby World Cup hopes were severely dented when two missed kicks from Josh Matavesi proved crucial in their 30-27 defeat to Uruguay however Tela’s four successful conversions at Twickenham were key in the final analysis.

The Flying Fijians won against the Barbarians after 49 long years and lifted the Killik Cup in the process.

Head coach of the Flying Fijians John McKee did not arrive with the team.
