THE Kiribati Education Ministry has implemented counselling services into its school curriculum in a bid to help students who are victims of abuse or may have been going through an abusive situation to cope with their studies.
In an interview at the Pacific Women Parliamentary Partnership Forum in Novotel Convention Centre, Lami on Wednesday, Kiribati Education Minister Maere Tekanene said this was necessary to allow such students to live a normal life.
“Teachers have been trained on counselling and also to deal with students who they suspect are suffering from abuse or are victims of abuse.
“Steps such as the legislation, which was passed in 2013 and now we have the family peace act in place,” Mr Tekanene said.
