HEAVY downpour has been experienced in the Western Division from this morning.

The Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) says a heavy rain alert is still in force for the country.

Rain and cloud associated with a trough of low pressure system is causing the change in weather. The system is slow moving over the Fiji Group.

People living in Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups along with those in the Northern and Western Divisions have been asked to prepare for rain.

Low lying areas can experience possible flooding.

Other parts of the country can expect occasional rain.

Mariners have also been asked to practice caution as west to northeast winds of about 10 to 15 knots are expected.
