AFTER a few hours of torrential rainfall on Tuesday night, most parts of Suva City were flooded.

Tropical Garments (Fiji) Ltd, which is located on Laucala Bay Rd in Suva, was not spared and as a result, their employees had to return home.

Director Bupendra Kumar claimed they had been facing this issue since 2006.

“The water has been rushing into the building ever since last night (Tuesday), now most of our garments are ruined as well as our machines,” Mr Kumar said.

With 30 employees, Mr Kumar said it would now cost them about $5000 to clean their shop.

He claimed most of the drains in the Suva area had been blocked for some time now.

In a statement issued yesterday, the National Disaster Management Office confirmed that flooding at Suva streets and the Queen Elizabeth Drive was because of blocked drains.

Qauia Crossing in Lami was also flooded because of heavy down pour and high tide, but water receded as rain eased yesterday morning, NDMO said.
