Heart specialists get special thank you

THE visiting 16 member medical team of congenital heart specialists were hosted to a thanksgiving dinner by the Indian High Commission in Suva last night for their efforts in performing lifesaving surgeries on children in the country.The team which is led by Dr Ashish Katewa, one of the world’s most experienced paediatric heart surgeons performed surgeries of 25 children with congenital heart conditions.
India’s High Commissioner to Fiji Vishvas Sapkal said the job done by the surgeons could not be described by words but only appreciation.
“I can say that you are coming as God’s own hands. You are giving life to the children and giving a new life to the families as well. That is the most important thing,” Mr Sapkal said.
He thanked the contribution and efforts of Sai Prema Foundation Fiji through their Gift of Life initiative which was able to bring the group to Fiji.
Sai Prema director Sumeet Tappoo said the foundation was formed primarily to serve the poor and needy population in the country.
“This service has three point approach. First , is through Medicare initiatives, the second is social-care initiatives and the third is through education –care initiatives,” Mr Tappoo said.
The team also came in 2016 and conducted similar surgeries.
